Pietà

here's a little vrooman art history!

a bit over 2 years ago, i was told i had an art show, one i did not ask for, 2 weeks before the opening.. i agreed and got stressed instantly. what was i to do? i called a friend to try and track down a person who had modeled for me before.. to no avail, but the friend offered to fill in... i did a sick ass painting (of course it was never documented.. trust me it was awesome) and she asked if she could bring a friend for the next session.

strange, life's path.. see, if you look at my work you'll sense a semi-religious theme here and there, but with one pervasive slant: the iconic male figures are often replaced with female ones.
i've always seen the bible as a terribly misogynistic collection of fables, where woman are property and born amoral.. from eve to judith... woman were simultaneously the slave and the bad guy (that is when the bible mentions woman at all). i hated this. i was raised by a woman, lived with and seen the violence that men create and bring. i have horror stories people. a lot of us do i suppose.
i'm no michelangelo, but i did bleed for this one (upper right corner)
so, long story short, i was super excited to do something that had been floating around my head for a while: my version of michelangelo's "pietà", in which of course the figure of the dying christ is a woman. little did i know that the 2nd model (who is the jesus figure in the painting) had been stalking me from afar ever since she saw my art at a show earlier in the year. but thats a whole different story, full of mind bending irony.

oh hey i love you!
even you vengeful people.
